Fifty Shades Of Greige
Picking A Wall Color

By Jessica Clinton
You’ve finally done it! You’ve picked the rooms and found the right painter (let’s assume you hired us 55357;56841;). Now it’s time for the fun part -- Picking a paint color! Yet what started as a relaxing evening (a palette of your favorite paint samples and a glass of wine) has morphed into a sleepless night staring at ten different swatches of gray that you can’t even tell apart anymore. What the heck is a greige anyway? Let us help!
Where To Start When Picking A Paint Color
First, we recommend thinking about the function and physical attributes of the room in question. What is the room used for? How often are you in it? Is the room small or spacious? All of these factors will play into the choice of color.
Here are some rules of thumb:
· Lighter colors make for brighter spaces
· Beds and baths can look great with a personal pop of color, as do accent walls
· Neutrals work well in larger common areas that will be routinely redecorated
Do Paint Colors Change In Different Lighting?
Yes! Or so it seems. Once you’ve narrowed down your colors, paint a generously sized sample on each wall in the room. Colors will appear dramatically different depending on lighting, time of day, and surroundings. Once fully dry, observe these samples in different lightings throughout the day for the most accurate color depiction.
